ভূমিকা : সবুজে শ্যামলে ভরা আমাদের এদেশের বেশির ভাগ স্থানজুড়ে রয়েছে গ্রাম। আমাদের এ গ্রামগুলাে যেন সবুজের লীলাভূমি। গ্রামের সবুজ প্রকৃতি যেকোনাে মানুষের হৃদয়কে প্রশান্তিতে ভরে দেয়। গ্রামের শান্ত পরিবেশ মানুষের সকল ক্লান্তি দূর করে। গ্রামই এদেশের প্রাণ।
গ্রামের অবস্থান : আমাদের গ্রামের নাম রতনপুর। এটি ঢাকা জেলার দোহার উপজেলার অন্তর্গত। এর পাশ দিয়ে বয়ে গেছে ইছামতী নদী। নদীর দুপাশের প্রাকৃতিক শােভা এ গ্রামকে অপূর্ব সৌন্দর্য দান করেছে। ঢাকা থেকে সড়ক পথে খুব সহজেই আমাদের গ্রামে আসা যায়।
গ্রামের প্রাকৃতিক সৌন্দর্য : আমাদের গ্রামখানি ছবির মতাে। আম-জাম, কাঁঠাল-লিচু, নারিকেল-সুপারি, শিমুল-পলাশ, তাল-তমাল আর নানাজাতের গাছপালায় সুসজ্জিত আমাদের এই গ্রাম। ঝােপঝাড় লতাপাতার নিবিড় ঘনিষ্ঠতা সবার মন কেড়ে নেয়। পাখপাখালির কলকূজনে সব সময়ই মুখর থাকে গ্রামখানি। দিগন্তবিস্তৃত ফসলের মাঠ, ধান-কাউনের হাতছানি, নিঝুম দুপুরে বটের ছায়ায় রাখালের বাঁশি উদাস করে মনপ্রাণ। দিঘী-ডােবা, বিল-ঝিল- কী এক অপূর্ব সৌন্দর্যের সঞ্চয়!
গ্রামের মানুষ : আমাদের গ্রামে মুসলমান, হিন্দু ও খ্রিস্টান ধর্মের মানুষ বাস করে। তাদের মধ্যে সাম্প্রদায়িক কোনাে ভেদাভেদ নেই। প্রত্যেকেই প্রত্যেকের ধর্মের প্রতি শ্রদ্ধাশীল। তাই সব মানুষ এখানে সুখে-শান্তিতে বসবাস করে।
গ্রামের মানুষের জীবিকা: আমাদের গ্রামের বেশির ভাগ মানুষই কৃষিকাজের সঙ্গে জড়িত। এছাড়া কিছু জেলে এবং তাঁতিও এখানে রয়েছে। কিছু মানুষ লেখাপড়া শিখে শহরে চাকরি করে। তবে সে সংখ্যা নিতান্তই কম। এছাড়া কিছু মানুষ দিনমুজুরি করে জীবিকা নির্বাহ করে।
গ্রামের অর্থনৈতিক উৎস : বাংলাদেশের বেশিরভাগ গ্রামের মানুষই কৃষির উপর নির্ভরশীল। তবে আমাদের গ্রামের চিত্র একটু ভিন্ন। গ্রামের বেশিরভাগ পরিবারেরই একজন করে দেশের বাইরে থাকে। তাদের পাঠানাে। বৈদেশিক মুদ্রা এ গ্রামের মানুষের আর্থিক অবস্থাকে মজবুত করেছে। গ্রামের আয়ের আরেকটি বড় উৎস কুটির শিল্প। প্রায় প্রতিটি বাড়িতেই নকশীকাঁথা, উলের তৈরি গালিচা, পাটের তৈরি নানা গৃহসজ্জার পণ্য তৈরি হয়। এগুলাে শহরে বিক্রি করে গ্রামের মানুষ প্রচুর অর্থ আয় করে। এছাড়া কৃষিজাত পণ্য যেমন : ধান, পাট, গম ও নানা ধরনের সবজি তরকারি বিক্রি করেও গ্রামের মানুষ অর্থ রােজগার করে। প্রতি বুধবার গ্রামে হাট বসে। হাটে শহরের লােকজন এসে সরাসরি গ্রামের কৃষকদের কাছ থেকে কৃষিজাত পণ্য সংগ্রহ করে।
গ্রামের প্রতিষ্ঠান: আমাদের গ্রামে একটি প্রাথমিক ও একটি মাধ্যমিক বিদ্যালয় রয়েছে। এ ছাড়া একটি কামিল মাদ্রাসা রয়েছে। আরাে রয়েছে একটি স্বাস্থ্য কমপ্লেক্স ও দুটি বেসরকারি অফিস। ধর্মীয় প্রতিষ্ঠানের মধ্যে তিনটি মসজিদ, একটি মন্দির ও একটি গির্জা রয়েছে। গ্রামের শেষ প্রান্তে রয়েছে একটি পােস্ট অফিস।
গ্রামের সংস্কৃতি: সাংস্কৃতিকভাবে আমাদের গ্রাম খুবই উন্নত। ধর্মীয় আচার-অনুষ্ঠানের পাশাপাশি এখানে নানা ধরনের মেলা ও সাংস্কৃতিক অনুষ্ঠান পরিচালিত হয়। যেমন : চৈত্র মাসের শেষে চৈত্রসংক্রান্তির মেলা, বৈশাখ মাসে বৈশাখি মেলা, অঘাণ মাসে নবান্ন অনুষ্ঠান, পৌষ মাসে পিঠার অনুষ্ঠান ইত্যাদি। গ্রামের মুসলিম ও হিন্দু বিয়েতে লােকজ গান, নাচ ও খাবারের আয়ােজন করা হয়। এ ছাড়া বিভিন্ন জাতীয় দিবসে স্কুলে অনুষ্ঠানের পাশাপাশি স্থানীয়ভাবেও লােকজন নানা অনুষ্ঠানের আয়ােজন করে থাকে।
স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রামে গ্রামের অবদান : মহান মুক্তিযুদ্ধে এ গ্রামের মানুষের অবদান অনেক। এ গ্রামের মানুষের সাহসিকতা ও বীরত্বে পাকিস্তানি বাহিনী এ গ্রামে প্রবেশের খুব একটা সুযোগ পায়নি। মুক্তিযুদ্ধের সময় এ অঞ্চলের দুজন আঞ্চলিক কমান্ডার এ গ্রামে থেকেই যুদ্ধ পরিচালনা করেছেন। পাকিস্তানি বাহিনীর গতি রােধ করার লক্ষ্যে এ গ্রামের এক ছেলে ব্রিজ ধ্বংস কতে গিয়ে শহিদ হয়েছেন। তার এবং মুক্তিযুদ্ধে আরাে যারা শহিদ হয়েছেন তাদের স্মরণে গ্রামে একটি শহিদ মিনার স্থাপন করা হয়েছে।
উপসংহার : আমাদের রতনপুর গ্রাম আমাদের কাছে খুব প্রিয়। এ গ্রামের প্রকৃতি মায়ায় জড়ানাে। রতনপুরের মানুষ সহজ-সরল ও অতিথিপরায়ণ। ইছামতী নদীর সৌন্দর্য এ গ্রামকে করেছে অন্য সব গ্রাম থেকে আলাদা। রতনপুর গ্রামের সব শ্রেণি-পেশার মানুষ মিলেমিশে বসবাস করে।

Natural beauty of the village: Our village is like a picture. Our village is well decorated with mango-jam, jackfruit-lychee, coconut-supari, shimul-palash, tal-tamal and various trees. Village Institutions: Our village has one primary and one secondary school. Apart from this there is a Kamil Madrasah. There is also a health complex and two private offices. Religious institutions include three mosques, a temple and a church. There is a post office at the end of the village.
Village Culture: Culturally our village is very developed. Apart from religious rituals, various kinds of fairs and cultural programs are conducted here. For example: Chaitrasankranti fair at the end of Chaitra month, Baisakhi fair in the month of Boishakh, Navanna event in the month of Aghana, Pitha event in the month of Paush etc. Village Muslim and Hindu weddings are organized with songs, dances and food. Contribution of the village in the freedom struggle: The contribution of the people of this village in the great war of liberation is great.
